Why don't local building owners try to keep rents to small businesses affordable. How many bars and chain restaurants to we need? That's what we're going to end up with... Starbucks and nightclubs and vacant store fronts...

Much the same thing occurred along Eighth Street in Greenwich Village in the early 1970's. Establishments catering to the local trade in the village could not keep up with the fast pace of rent increases and had to move on. It was sad, but today the Village is vibrant and many of the local stores are around along the side streets. There are lengths of Market where Best Regards might survive, but eighteen years in a business is a long time to say the least. We should applaud Ms Hurley for her endurance and charm.

Because we live in a free country and the owners can charge what ever rent they like. Amazing concept I know.
BTW where do you live? Can I come by a demand you take some of the value of your property and give it to someone else?
