" Ballard needs a reprieve from multi-family housing to give it time to adjust. Too many condos and townhomes bring down the neighborhood values, add to traffic and destroy the qualities that make Ballard a desirable place to live.
By the way, good luck selling them. Have you noticed that we are in a housing bubble? "

" Half a million dollars for a "cottage"?
Many recent condo conversions within blocks of this development stand empty.
A lovely single family home one block away was torn down to build to two $500k stand alone homes (about 2200 sq ft each) which have not sold.
I'm not against density per se, but it must be mitigated with neighborhood amenities and services such as open space, more police, better transit, etc.
The cottage project took down six majestic, mature pines...
...and the units have no garage, which forces more cars onto neighborhood streets.
So let's see...adding seven more units means more cars with fewer mature trees, and brings us no closer to affordable housing or transportation/traffic relief.

" What I was told by my mortgage lady and real estate agents is...you have to buy something cheaper first with a fha loan, live in it a year then either rent it out or sell it then you can buy something that is twice to three times as much as the cost of the first property. I'm from Ballard and if I want to buy in my community, I imagine this is what i'll have to do and it's too bad. Ballard used to be so affordable and lovely. It's too bad greedy people ruined it. "

" Why would these be priced less than townhomes? If anything, since they are standalone, they'd be priced higher. "

" I can't believe I actually got my hopes up, thinking these little things might be priced a bit less than all the townhomes.
Nope. Still can't afford to buy anything in Ballard. "
