Vandals hit flowerpots
Early afternoon on April 30, an unknown person tipped over a hanging basket and two flowerpots in front of a home on 28th Avenue Northwest. The suspect also broke some outside light bulbs and threw a rock into a basement window, shattering it. A witness saw a male in his 40s wearing blue jeans and carrying a red duffle bag. "His middle finger on his left hand was sticking straight out," the report said. The suspect got away before the police arrived.
Burglary on Dibble
Between 10:30 and 12:19 on April 30, a home on Dibble Avenue was burglarized. The thief gained entry by forcing open a front door and breaking the doorjamb and dead bolt. One fingerprint was found on the glass door of television stand. Both the television and a DVD player were stolen.
Too much booze
Police officers were sent to a 911 hang up call from a home on Northwest 90th St. on April 29. "The victim came to the door. He was extremely intoxicated and could barely talk. The small room was littered with approximately 30, 22-ounce cans of beer," the officer said in his report. Fearing the man had suffered from extreme alcohol poisoning, the officer called for the Seattle Fire Department for assistance. The officer then found an eviction notice and learned the man had left his stove on once and caused a fire. One burner was turned on and it was described as being "full red," and several items were close by on the stove that could have caught on fire. The man was taken to the hospital.
Identity thief targets senior
Walking into the North Precinct, a Ballard woman told the duty officer she had power of attorney over the affairs of her elderly mother. On three straight days in late April, Chase Manhattan Bank had called the mother to report unusual activity on an account. An identity thief had opened new accounts in her name and purchased airline tickets. The daughter closed all the accounts and notified the credit bureaus.
Disturbance lands man in jail
A disturbance, which was not described in the police report, resulted in the arrest of a man at Northwest Market Street and 30th Avenue Northwest. Officer found he had a warrant in his name and took him to jail.
Burglary attempt foiled
When a thief found the glass panes of a door too tempting, he or she used a brick to break it in an attempt to enter a Ballard home. A bar placed across the door prevented entry. |
