College team raises money for hospital

Monday, October 15, 2007

The North Seattle Community College Storm, men's basketball team sponsored a "Free-Throw-Athon," on Oct. 10 to raise money for Children's Hospital. Players and coaches received pledges from friends, family, students and staff for the 100 free throws they each made.

This event helps kick off the team's season. The team's coaching staff is lead by three former Ballard High School players. Head Coach Kyle Gray and assistants Eric Ensign and Jonathan Gathers were all former Beavers.

Gray was an assistant coach at Ballard High from 2000 to 2003. During that period, the Beavers had the highest ranking team in school history. He has also coached local select teams for eight years.

Ensign works with the Storm's point guards, defense, scouting and recruiting. He was an assistant with Ballard from 2001 to 2002. In 2002, he worked under Head Coach Trevor Harada, to lead the team to a fifth place finish at the AAA State Tournament.

Another former Beaver, Johnathan Gathers is also on the coaching staff.
