Teens trash Viewlands School
Police officers were sent to Viewlands Elementary School when numerous teens were seen destroying property in the playfield. They ran off before the police came, but two were detained nearby. Witnesses reported a large group of kids breaking up a table and skateboarding on and around it. The police report said Viewlands has sustained a large amount of property damage since is was closed by the Seattle School District.
Human being 'pummeled'
On July 15 around 2:28 a.m. some Ballard residents heard loud yelling and sounds of fighting. One witness went outside and observed a man covered with blood lying on the sidewalk. The wounded man asked for a ride to another location nearby. When asked what happened, he said he was "jumped." He managed to get up by himself, walked a short distance and fell. He finally walked away out of sight. A second witness told police she was sleeping when she heard sounds of "pummeling" and "thumping." The officer described this as the sound of "fists hitting human flesh." A red cell phone and sunglasses with the victim's blood on it were found at the scene.
Bad guy loses wallet
When a Ballard homeowner was checking her mailbox, she noticed a small, clear, plastic item on her front porch. She picked it up and found a wallet with identification cards inside. A police officer ran the name on the identification card and found the suspect who it belonged to, had 28 prior arrests and is active with the Department of Corrections system. The information was forwarded to corrections officers.
Gummi Bears taken in heist
A police officer on patrol in Crown Hill spotted a male suspect running out of a grocery store late at night with merchandise. When the officer caught up with the suspect, he had ditched everything. "I noticed he was sweating profusely and I could see the vein in his neck pumping at a high rate," the officer said. With the suspect in custody, the officer searched the side of the store, and found stolen items scattered on the ground. As his Miranda Rights were being read, the suspect said, "I'm not competent enough to understand." He spent the night in jail. An inventory of the stolen items included: BIC lighters; soap; beef jerky; Gummi Bears; facial soap and cream; Nokia cell phone charger; smoked salmon; hot sauce; a candle; and package of barbecue pork.
Flailing arms hit officer
After harassing customers at a Ballard drinking establishment, a man from Puyallup went outside and staggered around the street. Officers found the man sitting under the Ballard Bridge with some buddies and open containers of beer. The suspect did not cooperate and tried to walk away. He had to be restrained by officers. "He became increasingly agitated and violent, at one point having to be taken to the ground after his flailing arm struck me in the face," according to one officer's statement. An ambulance was called and the suspect was taken to the hospital. Hospital staff asked the police to keep the handcuffs on their new patient because of his aggressive nature.
Burglaries in Ballard
On July 15 a neighbor heard a crashing sound and then saw two burglars kicking in the door of a home next to his. Within a couple of minutes the suspects were taking a flat screen television out the door and the neighbor called 911. When the police arrived at the home, they smelled the odor of marijuana with numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia in the house. They left a case number on the kitchen counter for the homeowner. The suspects were described as teenagers.
That very same day, a burglar gained entry into a Ballard home through an unlocked window. Once inside, he took a laptop computer from the living room. Nothing else was disturbed.
Around 11 a.m. on a Sunday morning, a Ballardite decided to take a shower. An unknown suspect entered his apartment, possibly with a key and stole a laptop computer. A neighbor told police he saw someone wearing red clothing, knocking on the door. He assumed it was a friend of the neighbor.
Bark, bark, bark
In a case of noisy dog, residents in one Seattle neighborhood (address blacked out) have been calling 911 to complain, always at night. The problem gets more annoying now that summer is here and people leave their windows home. Neighbors told police they have tried to work out a solution with the dog owner with no success. On July 16, at 9:30 p.m. the barking got worse as the dog's owner hosted a party and his guests were playing a loud game.
One neighbor went to the home to ask them to close the windows and to reduce the noise. The woman who owned the dog claimed her pet had just had surgery and that the dog had a bark collar on. When the neighbor again asked that the noise be reduced, a second suspect grabbed her and pushed her. This action knocked a cell phone out of the neighbor's hand and forced her feet out of her sandals. She went home fearing for her safety and called police. She told officers the second suspect kicked her cell phone and threw the sandals at her. Police officers went to the home that was making all the noise. Guess what? The home was now quiet and there was no answer at the door.
